PURCHASE, N.Y. — The Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer team fell to Manhattanville University, 9-1, Tuesday, October 6 at GoValiants.com Field.
The Gryphons, now 3-5-4 overall and 1-3-1 in Skyline Conference play, found the back of the net once in the opening half, with Kairos Diaz scoring in the 21st minute to briefly pull Sarah Lawrence level.
Manhattanville opened the scoring in the 10th minute, but Sarah Lawrence answered just over 10 minutes later. Dean Brown set up Diaz for his sixth goal of the season and seventh of his career, marking the first assist of Brown's career. Diaz's finish at the 20:35 mark made it a 1-1 contest.
The Valiants regained the lead in the 40th minute before adding two more goals before halftime, taking a 4-1 advantage into the break. Manhattanville continued to pressure in the second half, scoring five additional goals to secure the victory.
Diaz led the Gryphons offensively with five shots, including two on target, while Brown recorded three shots and an assist. Chase Bolden added two shots, both on goal.
Sarah Lawrence goalkeeper Jonah Zalis made five saves in 52:37 of action, while Joseph Vaca recorded two saves over the final 37:23. The Gryphons finished with 13 shots, putting six on frame, and earned three corner kicks.
Manhattanville improved to 9-1-3 overall and remained unbeaten in conference play at 6-0-0. The Valiants outshot the Gryphons, 34-13, including a 17-6 edge in shots on goal.
Sarah Lawrence returns to action Thursday, Oct. 8, when the Gryphons host Purchase College at Fleming Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
