Men's Volleyball Faces off Against Panthers on Wednesday Evening

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's volleyball team fell to the hosting Purchase College Panthers on Wednesday night in three closely-contested sets. The Panthers took the match by scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-18 to remain undefeated in conference play.

Notable Performers
  • Jack Cahill led the team with 10 kills, five digs and four aces
  • Alex Xie tallied 19 assists and three blocks
  • Mikel Miller racked up six blocks and four kills for SLC
How it Happened

The hosts jumped ahead to an early 5-2 advantage, but five straight SLC points on the back of three Cahill aces propelled the visitors into the lead early in the evening. The hosts rallied to return to the lead before a Xie/Miller block capped a 4-1 run by the Gryphons to remain in control 11-9. Six of the ensuing seven rallies ended with Purchase scores as the Panthers erased the SLC lead. The Gryphons remained within striking distance, eventually trailing 21-20 before four consecutive Panther scores gave the hosts a first-set victory. The Panthers got ahead in the second set, but the Gryphons remained on their heels throughout. Kills from Cahill, Miller and Ethan Look kept the visitors close, but the hosts maintained a small lead thorughout the set. Miller added a pair of solo blocks late while a Look/Aidan Roney block brought SLC within three, but the Panthers sealed the set with a block to go up 2-1 in the match. Kills by Cahill, Roney and Jackson Perhaes put the Gryphons ahead 8-6 early in the third set as the team looked to get back into the match. The hosts responded with four straight points on SLC errors to regain the lead. Cahill, Perhaes, Miller and Look all added midset kills, but the Panthers led 21-15 and positioned themselves to take the match in three sets. A Miller/Xie block stopped the momentum temporarily, but it would not be enough as the Panthers took the final set 25-18 and took the match victory in three sets.
