BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Sarah Lawrence first years
Jack Cahill and
Caileigh Koenig took home rookie of the week honors from the Skyline Conference this week after standout performances. Cahill posted over 70 kills across four matches while Koenig helped SLC to a pair of victories on Sunday while tossing a no-hitter.
Cahill and the Gryphons started the week with a dominant three-set win over Manhattanville, totaling 23 kills in a win with playoff implications. The first year continued his strong play on Thursday with 33 kills in a five-set battle with Old Westbury, adding in eight digs and five aces. On Saturday, Cahill brought his weekly total to 73 kills and 43 digs with a pair of double-digit dig performances against SJLI and Regis while earning his fourth Rookie of the Week nod of the season. Cahill and the Gryphons will return to action next on Wednesday, March 25th as the Gryphons look to sweep the season series against Yeshiva.
On the diamond, Koenig did a bit of everything for the Gryphons, but none was more impressive than Sunday's outing on the mound. The first year no-hit Yeshiva in SLC's conference opener, allowing just two baserunners and striking out eight Maccabees. Koenig excelled at the plate as well, going 2-3 with a pair of extra-base hits and three RBIs in game one before driving in another two runs while scoring a pair as well in the second game. Koenig now leads the team with a .364 batting average, an OPS over 1.000 and 10 RBIs while also throwing 35 innings and six complete games already. Koenig and the Gryphons will return to action at home on Tuesday, March 24th as the team hosts Baruch for a 3:30 p.m. start in Bronxville.
