YONKERS, N.Y. — The Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer team earned a 3-1 victory over Pratt Institute on Monday, September 21, at Fleming Soccer Field, as three different Gryphons found the back of the net to lead Sarah Lawrence to its second win of the season.
Freshman Noah Oduwole opened the scoring in the fourth minute, tallying his first collegiate goal off an assist from sophomore Ivan Pudelka. The goal came on Sarah Lawrence's first shot of the contest and gave the Gryphons an early 1-0 advantage.
Sarah Lawrence continued to control the pace of play throughout the opening half, recording eight shots from six different players. Oduwole, Pudelka, Kairos Diaz, Conner Jennings, Rhys Roberts, Connor Saul, and Benjamin Berkson helped keep pressure on the Cannoneers.
In goal, senior Joseph Vaca started for the Gryphons and made two saves during the opening half to preserve Sarah Lawrence's lead. Jacob Freed took over goalkeeping duties in the 68th minute, making one save while allowing Pratt's lone goal.
The Gryphons doubled their advantage shortly after halftime when senior Dylan Peavoy scored in the 49th minute for his first goal of the season and the third of his career.
Pratt answered in the 68th minute, as Dylan Costa cut the deficit to 2-1.
Sarah Lawrence responded with sustained pressure late in the match before Pudelka sealed the victory in the final second of regulation. Conner Jennings provided the assist, marking the sophomore's second career assist and giving Pudelka his first collegiate goal.
The Gryphons finished the evening with a 14-6 advantage in shots, including a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. Sarah Lawrence also held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Both teams recorded three saves, while Pratt was whistled for 17 fouls compared to seven for the Gryphons.
With the win, Sarah Lawrence improves to 2-3-3 on the season, while Pratt falls to 1-4-1.
The Gryphons return to action on Wednesday, September 23, when they face Yeshiva University in a Skyline Conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. at Bergen County Community College in Paramus, N.J.
