PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Manhattanville on Wednesday, September 30, at the Manhattanville Tennis Courts.
The Gryphons battled in doubles play, but the Valiants claimed all three matches to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
At No. 1 doubles,
Neomi Spellman and
Josephine Jackson fell 6-4 to Manhattanville's Amaya Ortiz and Addison Ortiz.
Serafina Panuccio and
Annabelle Abruzzo dropped a 6-2 decision at No. 2 doubles, while
Lillian Rodenhizer and
Madelyn Kane were defeated 6-1 at No. 3.
Manhattanville continued its momentum in singles, earning straight-set victories at all six positions.
Jackson competed at No. 1 singles before falling 6-1, 6-0 to Adrianna Filippelli. Spellman was defeated 6-0, 6-1 by Amaya Ortiz at No. 2, while
Isabelle Ng dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Jenifer Lalman at No. 3.
At No. 4 singles, Panuccio fell 6-2, 6-1 to Addison Ortiz.
Caroline He was defeated 6-2, 6-1 by Maria Gutierrez at No. 5, and
Elena Valente closed out the singles lineup with a 6-2, 6-0 loss to Maddie Maras at No. 6.
With the result, Sarah Lawrence moves to 3-2 on the season and 0-1 in Skyline Conference action. Manhattanville improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
The Gryphons will return to action Thursday, October 1 to take on UMSV at 5:30 p.m. UMSV will serve as the home team, but the match will be held at Sarah Lawrence Courts.
