NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis team opened the 2026 season in dominant fashion Friday afternoon, defeating Albertus Magnus College, 6-1, at Celentano Courts.

The Gryphons took two of three doubles matches to secure the opening point before carrying their momentum into singles play, where Sarah Lawrence won five of six matches.

Sarah Lawrence's No. 2 doubles team of Carolina Gherardi and Serafina Panuccio set the tone with an 8-4 victory over Aprile Allen and Shelby Bureau. At No. 3 doubles, Annabelle Abruzzo and Anastasia Grishikasv followed with an 8-1 win over Camily Silva and Anaeliz Guerrero to clinch the doubles point.

In singles action, Josephine Jackson delivered a commanding 6-0, 6-1 victory over Ashley Ouellette at No. 2 singles. Serafina Panuccio was equally impressive at No. 3, defeating Shelby Bureau, 6-1, 6-0.

Addison Chalmers provided the Gryphons' other singles victory at No. 4, battling past Aprile Allen, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8), in a dramatic super-tiebreak finish.

At No. 5 singles, Elena Valente cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Camily Silva, while Carolina Gherardi completed a strong day with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Anaeliz Guerrero at No. 6.

Albertus Magnus earned its lone point at No. 1 singles, where Madison Rossetti defeated Sarah Lawrence's Neomi Spellman, 6-0, 6-2. Spellman and Jackson also battled at No. 1 doubles, falling to Rossetti and Ashley Ouellette, 8-3.

With the 6-1 victory, Sarah Lawrence opens the 2026 season at 1-0.

The Gryphons return to action on Thursday, Sept. 10, when they host Lehman College at 5 p.m. at the Sarah Lawrence Courts in Bronxville.
