NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons made an immediate impact in the opening week of the 2026 fall season, earning 10 Skyline Conference weekly honors across four sports, including three major weekly awards.

The conference announced its Players of the Week for Week One (Sept. 1-6) on Monday, with Sarah Lawrence student-athletes earning recognition in women's volleyball, women's tennis, women's soccer, and cross country.

Costa, Combs Lead Volleyball Honors
Sarah Lawrence women's volleyball nearly swept the conference's weekly awards, with sophomore Sophia Costa earning Player of the Week honors, freshman Caroline Combs being named Rookie of the Week, and freshman Kai Perkins receiving an honorable mention selection.

The Gryphons opened the season with a perfect 4-0 record, earning three-set victories over Vassar and Pratt before defeating Regis in four sets. They closed out the week with a three-set sweep of CCNY.

Costa orchestrated the offense throughout the week, recording 118 assists while adding 26 digs, six blocks, six kills, and five service aces. The honor marks the first Skyline Conference Player of the Week selection of her career.

Combs made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, totaling 48 kills, 37 digs, 14 service aces, five blocks, and one assist across the four matches. Her performance earned her first career Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week recognition.

Perkins also received her first career conference honor after posting 61 digs, eight service aces, and seven assists during the opening week.

Women's volleyball returns to action Thursday, Sept. 10, when the Gryphons host Stevens Institute in a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup at the Campbell Sports Center.

Gherardi Earns Rookie of the Week in Tennis Debut
Sophomore Carolina Gherardi was named Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week after helping Sarah Lawrence defeat Albertus Magnus, 6-1, in the season opener.

Making her collegiate debut, Gherardi teamed with Serafina Panuccio for an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles before cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.

Panuccio also earned a spot on the Skyline Conference honorable mention team after combining the doubles victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.

The honors marked the first career Skyline Conference weekly selections for both Gryphons.

Sarah Lawrence women's tennis returns to action Thursday, Sept. 10, traveling to Lehman for a 5 p.m. non-conference matchup.

Beaver Makes Program History
Senior Katey Beaver earned an honorable mention selection after another standout week for Sarah Lawrence women's soccer.

The Gryphons opened conference play with an emphatic 11-0 victory over Yeshiva before battling Albertus Magnus to a 2-2 draw.

Beaver found the back of the net six times during the week, scoring four goals against Yeshiva and both Sarah Lawrence goals against Albertus Magnus. She also contributed two assists against Yeshiva.

With her six-goal week, Beaver became the all-time leading goal scorer in Sarah Lawrence women's soccer history. The recognition is the fourth Skyline Conference weekly honor of her career and her first honorable mention selection.

The Gryphons return to action Wednesday, Sept. 9, hosting CCNY at 7 p.m. at Fleming Soccer Field for the team's Domestic Violence Awareness Game.

Cross Country Collects Four Honors
Four Sarah Lawrence cross country student-athletes earned Skyline Conference honorable mention recognition following the program's 2026 debut at the Panthers XC Invite, hosted by Adelphi University.

Junior Whitney Hall led the women's team with a time of 28:42.7 in the 6K, placing 72nd overall. Rookie Kenedy Nutter made her collegiate debut with a time of 40:12.9, finishing 113th.

On the men's side, junior Gavin Wright paced Sarah Lawrence in the 8K, crossing the finish line in 36:49.0 for 132nd place. Rookie Hezekiah McCoy followed in 153rd with a time of 43:28.9.

For Hall, Nutter, Wright, and McCoy, the selections marked the first Skyline Conference weekly honors of their careers.

Sarah Lawrence cross country returns to competition Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Purchase College Invitational, with the race scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
