Sarah Lawrence sponsors 15 intercollegiate athletic teams, and in 2012-13, the College officially entered membership into the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as a member of Division III. Beginning in 2014-15, SLC competes as a member of the Skyline Conference.
Like many other small liberal arts colleges, the Gryphons chose Division III for its emphasis on balancing the overall student experience. Student-athletes can keep their primary focus on academics while participating in a highly competitive sports program. There are nearly 450 member schools in DIII, making it the largest division of the NCAA.
At Sarah Lawrence, participation in intercollegiate sports is fully integrated into the educational process and experience. Gryphons are active members of a campus community that values cultural diversity and gender equity, fostering a spirit of cooperation, leadership, commitment, and mutual respect.
