On Saturday, Kayla Pincus earned the title of 2013 HVIAC Women's Tennis Champion, winning her bracket at No. 2 singles.
Pincus' title run was threatened in the semifinal round, as the Gryphon came just a few points away from making an early tournament exit. After a tightly-fought duel with her opponent from College of New Rochelle, Pincus trailed 2-0 in a decisive tiebreaker. The Gryphon finally pulled in front at 4-3 and closed out the semifinal match, 8-7(7-5).
In the championship match, Pincus led 5-2 and saw that lead partially evaporate when her Pratt Institute opponent broke serve and closed the gap to 5-4. Pincus refocused, took control of the match and won the final two games of her 8-5 victory to become HVIAC champion.
