Bronxville, NY – September 15, 2011
In tonight's match against the Bard Raptors, the Sarah Lawrence women's volleyball team came out swinging, bringing dramatic play to the court at the Campbell Sports Center. The final score was 3-0 Raptors, though the strengths of the Gryphons were evident early on in the match-up.
The volleys brought fans to a roaring frenzy during the first game that the Gryphons had nearly tied going into the last plays in the game. Sarah Lawrence steadily closed the gap on the Raptors' lead thanks to the serves of First Year Karolien Celie (Belgium/Canyonville Christian Academy), who brought the game up to 20-23 with the Raptors ahead but nervous. Bard ultimately took the game 25-20, but it was a highpoint and a strong game for the young squad of Gryphons.
“The Team played exceptionally well in the first set of the match, often running a strong offense while hustling defensively,” Head Coach Krishna Dass said following the match. “These matches are important in exposing areas in which we need to improve and in providing highlights to boost confidence.”
“I am extremely proud of all the players, their camaraderie, and their commitment to excelling on a daily basis,” Dass said. “They have showed strong character and I am excited to see the transition as the season progresses.”
