Basketball Finishes Week at Home 0-2 Against Albany, Culinary

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Bronxville, NY - January 28, 2012

The men's basketball team faced some tough competition this week in front of a home crowd, losing to Albany College of Pharmacy on Wednesday night 37-88 and to Culinary Institute 20-62. Both games were played at the Campbell Sports Center, as will the team's next four games with the exception of an away game against St. Joseph's College Brooklyn this coming Wednesday night.

On Wednesday night, the Gryphons started strong but got outscored early on and could not make up the deficit despite some nice defense on the Gryphon side. Senior co-captains Nick Streltzov (Sacramento, Calif./C.K. McClatchy) and Kyle Kouri (Weston, Conn./WHS Brentwood) and Freshman Malcom Knowles all had one steal a piece, with Streltzov and Knowles putting up three blocks between them. Junior Francis Oppong (Brooklyn, N.Y./Erasmus) led the team in rebounds with five for the night. Kouri led the game in total points with six buckets from the floor and a free throw, finishing the game with 13 points. On his heels was Oppong with eight.

On Saturday afternoon, the Gryphons had seven steals, two blocks and 22 rebounds, with Oppong leading the way defensively with both blocks and seven rebounds. High-scorers were Knowles and Kouri with five a piece.

The Gryphons next home game will be on Saturday, February 4, against Berkleley COllege at 1:00pm. The following three games will also be home on Monday, 2/6 at 7:00pm, Saturday, 2/11 at 3:00pm, and Wednesday, 2/15 at 7:30pm. Wednesday's game will be celebrating the team's seniors. Come out to support the Gryphons at these games and to see a fulol schedule, click here.
