BROOKLYN, N.Y.—In the teams' final league match of the regular-season, Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball defeated Medgar Evers College, 3-0, in a Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) match at Cougars Cave on Saturday.
Sarah Lawrence (16-13, 5-1 HVWAC) concludes its conference slate with a much improved mark over its 1-5 HVWAC record from last season. Medgar Evers (1-21, 0-6 HVWAC) remains without a conference win since 2010.
In the opening set, Sarah Lawrence's attack was plagued by nine errors to accompany nine kills. Late in the set, the Gryphons collected themselves and turned a 19-19 stalemate into a 25-19 win.
The second set saw the Gryphons pull away more easily, notching a 25-14 win. The Green and White capped off the third set with 12 kills to take a 25-17 win and sweep the match.
Sophomore
Kitty O'Sullivan (Los Angeles, Calif., Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy) racked up 12 kills, including half of them in the first set. First-year player
Zoë Spanbroek (Boca Raton, Fla., Saint Andrew's) added six kills with four in the third set. Rookie
Molly Busk (Corbett, Ore., Corbett) led all players with 10 digs, while setter
Brooklynn Moore (Oakland, Calif., Santa Catalina) contributed a match-high 12 assists.
Sarah Lawrence concludes its regular season on Wednesday, when the Gryphons host The City College of New York at Campbell Sports Center at 6 p.m.
Sarah Lawrence then prepares for the HVWAC Volleyball Championship, including a quarterfinal rematch against MEC at home on Saturday at 6 p.m. with the winner advancing to Sunday's final rounds at Culinary Institute of America.
