Women's Volleyball Overthrows The King's College

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Backed by a double-double performance by setter Brooklynn Moore (Oakland, Calif., Santa Catalina), Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball defeated The King's College, 3-0, in a non-conference on Noyse Court at Campbell Sports Center on Tuesday.

Sarah Lawrence (9-8) has now won six straight matches and improves its home record to 7-1, while The King's College (6-5) slips to 3-2 against teams from the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC).

The first set saw the Lady Lions open up a 6-1 lead, but the Gryphons went on a 7-1 tear to gain an 8-7 lead. Sarah Lawrence pulled away by outscoring the visitors 11-5 to close out the 25-19 set. Gryphon Molly Busk (Corbett, Ore., Corbett) led her squad with five digs in the set, while Jomana Abdallah (Anaheim, Calif., Fairmont Prep Academy) contributed five kills. For The King's College, freshman Alexandra Rollis also posted five digs.

In the second set, Sarah Lawrence led wire-to-wire, cracking open a 6-1 edge to start the period. The lead swelled to eight at 22-14, and the Gryphons picked up the 25-18 set. The set was a big one for Moore, who anchored the Sarah Lawrence defense with six digs.

Sarah Lawrence again took an early lead in the third set, and The King's College failed to recover from the deficit. The Lady Lions did use a 7-1 rally to narrow an 11-point gap to 20-15, but the Gryphons held strong and a Busk service ace sealed the 25-16 set and 3-0 match.

Moore picked up a match-highs of 26 assists and 11 digs to earn her second double-double of the season. Abdallah led all players with 12 kills and contributed nine digs in the match, while Busk topped the match with five aces. Heavy-hitter Zoë Spanbroek (Boca Raton, Fla., Saint Andrew's) notched eight kills and seven digs on the day.

For The King's College, Rollis and freshman Abigail Murray each recorded seven kills, while Rollis also added 10 digs.

Sarah Lawrence has a busy weekend ahead, as the Gryphons are set to travel to the St. Joseph's Invitational hosted by St. Joseph's College Long Island. Sarah Lawrence will face York College (N.Y.) and Ramapo College on Friday before taking on City College of New York and the host Golden Eagles on Saturday.
