BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—In another tough loss for the Gryphons, Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball fell to visiting Vassar College, 78-19, in a non-conference game at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Monday.
Vassar (4-4) jumped out to a 24-3 lead in the first half and secured a 45-11 advantage by halftime. The Brewers outscored the Green and White 33-8 in the second period to secure the win.
For Sarah Lawrence (3-7), junior
Greg Smith (Tampa, Fla., Gaither) scored the team's first five points in his first home game after missing several weeks due to injury. Smith piled on four more points in the opening stanza en route to a team-high 11 points in the game. He also crashed the boards for a team-best five rebounds in the game.
Senior
Francis Oppong (Brooklyn, N.Y., Erasmus) led Sarah Lawrence with six points in the second half, making two field goals complemented with a pair of free throws. Oppong, Smith and senior
John Collector (Santa Barbara, Calif., Dos Pueblos) all added a pair of steals on the defensive end.
For Vassar,
Sam Rappaport (Northridge, Calif./Highland Hill) led all players with 21 points. Sophomore
Alex Snyder (Rutland, Vt., Rutland) totaled 17 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, while
Curtis Smith (Mastic, N.Y., Eastport South Manor) added 12 points for the Brewers.
Sarah Lawrence looks to bounce back in a home showdown against The New School on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Gryphons round out the calendar year by hosting Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference opponent Culinary Institute of America on Saturday at 2 p.m.
