Women's Swimming Splits Home Duals

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – In the team's final dual meets before winter break, Sarah Lawrence College women's swimming split its two Friday matchups, defeating Bard College, 72-20, while falling to Purchase College, 56-39, at Campbell Sports Center pool.

For Sarah Lawrence (4-3), sophomore Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J., Morristown) picked up a double win in the distance events, securing the top spot in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 12:16.16 before winning the 500 yard freestyle in 6:06.19.

Sophomore Jay Pulitano (Mountain Lakes, N.J., Mountain Lakes) also added two individual victories. He won the 200 yard freestyle with a performance of 2:19.05 before squeaking out a first-place finish in the 100 yard backstroke (1:12.39).

Sophomore Ariana Peschke (Topanga, Calif., La Reina) continued her dominance of the sprints. She posted a time of 25.95 to win the 50 yard freestyle and touched the wall first in 56.75 in the 100 yard freestyle.

Rookie Sam Amberchan (Menlo Park, Calif., Menlo-Atherton) also had a positive outing, edging her Bard opponent for second in the 100 yard butterfly with a mark of 1:13.29 before contributing to the Green and White 200 yard freestyle relay.

In the neutral-site matchup of the evening, Purchase (5-3) defeated Bard (0-3) by a score of 77-15.

After the winter break, Sarah Lawrence's women take to their home pool to square off against The College at Old Westbury on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013. They conclude their home schedule with a dual against St. Joseph's College Brooklyn on January 19. The Gryphons then race in two more meets leading up to the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference and Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships in February.
