Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—After a hard-fought loss to the Lightning, the Gryphons rebounded with a shutout in the nightcap, as Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball fell to Lehman College, 3-2, before picking up a 3-0 win over Medgar Evers College on Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Friday.

Sarah Lawrence (3-6) has won two of its last three matches, while Lehman (6-5) regains a winning record and Medgar Evers (0-8) is still seeking its first win of the season.

Against Lehman, Sarah Lawrence fell behind 5-1 in the opening set before tying the score at 10-10. The back-and-forth set saw five lead changes and nine ties, as the two squads combined for 18 kills. With the Gryphons trailing 25-24, first-year player Zoë Spanbroek (Boca Raton, Fla., Saint Andrew's) notched a kill to keep the set alive, and six points later, she put away the set on a successful attack, 29-27.

The Lightning regained momentum in the second set, as a 10-8 Lehman lead developed into an 18-10 advantage for the visitors. Despite three consecutive service aces from Spanbroek, the set was out of reach, and Lehman leveled the match with a 25-17 mark.

Sarah Lawrence fired away in the third set, as sophomore Kitty O'Sullivan (Los Angeles, Calif., Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy) tallied three early service aces to help the Gryphons to a 10-1 lead. Lehman whittled the margin down to 14-9, but the Gryphons took over the driver's seat from there. O'Sullivan notched back-to-back blocks, and setter Brooklynn Moore (Oakland, Calif., Santa Catalina) contributed an ace to close out a 25-12 set for the Gryphons.

Not relenting easily, Lehman responded in the fourth set, and a trio of early aces by Imani Dubois (Bronx, N.Y./J.P. Taravella) put the Lightning in front, 4-0. An O'Sullivan kill leveled the score at 9-9, but Lehman took the lead for good and eventually clinched the set, 25-18.

In the decisive set, Lehman turned a 4-4 draw into a 8-4 Lightning edge, and though the Gryphons closed the gap at 12-10, the Lightning scored the final three points to clinch a 15-10 set and 3-2 victory.

Lehman's Vanessa Brown (Bronx, N.Y. / Lehman) led all players with 11 kills, while Dubois had a match-high 19 digs.

Sophomore Xina Graham-Vannais (Newtown, Pa., George School) led the Gryphons with eight kills, while Spanbroek had a match-high seven aces, and Jomana Abdallah (Anaheim, Calif., Fairmont Prep Academy) posted a team-high 17 digs for Sarah Lawrence.

In the second match, three early O'Sullivan aces broke open a 10-3 first-set lead for the Gryphons. Graham-Vannais helped the team score six straight in her term of service, while sophomore Alexis Chapman (Bend, Ore., Bend) tacked on five straight as server, allowing Sarah Lawrence to cruise to a 25-16 opening set.

Consistent serving from Chapman and Abdallah piled on a 13-1 run for the Gryphons in the second set, and an ace from Spanbroek solidified a quick 25-8 set for Sarah Lawrence.

The Gryphons closed out their win over Medgar Evers by converting a 10-8 lead into a 25-14 rout in the third set. Graham-Vannais tallied consecutive aces before taking the honor of serving the match clinching point in the season's first meeting between the squads.

Spanbroek totaled a match-high 10 kills, while she and Abdallah led all players with six digs; Medgar Evers' Catheline Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y./Lafayette) also matched with half a dozen digs. O'Sullivan totaled a combined 5.5 blocks in the two matches to lead the Gryphons.

Sarah Lawrence heads to Manhattanville College for a tri-match on Saturday. The Gryphons take on William Paterson University at 1 p.m. before facing the host Valiants at 3 p.m.
