Women's Volleyball Swept by CNR

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball was defeated by College of New Rochelle, 3-0, in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at the CNR Wellness Center on Tuesday.

Sarah Lawrence (2-14, 1-3 HVIAC) scored the opening point of the match, but New Rochelle (12-7, 4-0 HVIAC) jumped out to a 16-8 lead. The Gryphons reeled in the gap at 20-17, but the Blue Angels scored five unanswered points to close out a 25-17 set.

In the second set, CNR tallied eight straight points to start the set, and SLC never closed the gap to fewer than five points in the 25-19 set.

The final frame saw the Blue Angels use a 6-0 run to take a 10-4 advantage, but two service aces and a kill by Gryphon Kitty O'Sullivan (Los Angeles, Calif./Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy) helped erase the deficit. With the squads deadlocked at 13-13, CNR scored three go-ahead points, and the Green and White were unable to respond. The teams played back-and-forth volleyball until CNR closed out the match, 25-22.

For the fourth straight match, middle blocker Jomana Abdallah (Los Angeles, Calif./Fairmont Prep Academy) led the Gryphon attack; the sophomore posted a team-high seven kills. O'Sullivan finished with six kills, 11 digs and two service aces, while setter Janet Tonyan (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) notched a double-double with 16 assists and a match-high 12 digs.

On the other side of the net, Meghan King led the CNR offense with 11 kills, while Tiany Perez Diaz anchored the defense with 11 digs.

Sarah Lawrence returns to the court with a trip to Brooklyn College on Thursday. The Gryphons return home to host Lehman College in a 7 p.m. match on Friday at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center.
