Regatta Results
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—In the team's second event of the season, Sarah Lawrence College women's crew competed at the Navy Day Regatta hosted by St. Joseph's University on the Schuylkill River on October 12. In their two events, the Gryphons took 19th and seventh places, competing in varsity 4+ and novice 4+ events, respectively.
Water conditions were rough, with strong wind and current. Rowers also had to contend with debris washed into the water from rain runoff. Steered by coxswain
Alejandra Montano (New York, N.Y./The Facing History School), the varsity boat had some very strong strokes, stopping the clock at 17:02.8 for 19th place in a field of 20 teams.
Rowing for the first time on their own, SLC's rookies combined to field a true novice boat. The Gryphons did a standout job navigating the course, including many turns and five bridge archways. Though they were the last boat across the line, the Green and White finished with a commendable seventh-place time of 18:39.74.
Sarah Lawrence returns to the Schuylkill for a second chance to tackle the Philadelphia course. The Gryphons are set to row at the two-day Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on Saturday and Sunday.
