Regatta Results

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—After an ominous start to the day, Sarah Lawrence College women's crew hit the water and successfully competed at the 2013 Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on the Schuylkill River on Saturday. SLC fielded one boat in the varsity 4+ race, stopping the clock in 34th place in a field of 40 teams.

Challenges for the team started early when trailer troubles and congested traffic prevented the Gryphons from reaching the course in time for their first scheduled race, the novice 4+ heats.

After the initial difficulties, SLC's rowers were able to compose themselves and prepare for the start of the varsity 4+ race. The Green and White boat launched with Alejandra Montano (New York, N.Y./The Facing History School) at the rudder of the bow-loaded four. Abigail Michelson (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) and Ella Pavlechko (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) served as the stroke pair, while Soleil Groh (Seattle, Wash./Newport) and Christina Tang (Foshan, China/Mercyhurst Preparatory School) handled the bow.

Despite temperatures in the 40s and wind gusts to 30 mph, Sarah Lawrence weathered the course and crossed the line in 20:25.55, good for 34th place of 40 teams.

Sarah Lawrence hits the water for the final time of 2013 on Saturday at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Rowing Association Fall Championship Regatta in Bronx, N.Y. SLC's women will race three boats, including a novice 4+ (9:42 a.m.), varsity 4+ (10:42 a.m.) and novice 8+ (11:42 a.m.). Then, the Green and White boats will come off the water until spring practice in February.
