Basketball Falls in Pratt Rematch

Box Score
BROOKLYN, N.Y.—In the team's final league game of the season, Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball fell to Pratt Institute, 48-31, in a Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) game at the Pratt ARC on Tuesday.

The result levels the season series at 1-1 after Sarah Lawrence beat Pratt, 35-32, in the Gryphons' home opener on November 11.

After three minutes of scoreless play, Pratt (4-8, 1-5 HVMAC) was first on the scoreboard, converting four consecutive shots to jump out to a 9-0 lead. Soon after, Sarah Lawrence (4-13, 0-6 HVMAC) junior Greg Smith (Tampa, Fla., Gaither) made a pair of buckets, while senior John Collector (Santa Barbara, Calif., Dos Pueblos) sank a trey to cut the gap to five points at 12-7.

Minutes later, Gryphon Francis Oppong (Brooklyn, N.Y., Erasmus) made good on back-to-back shot attempts, narrowing the deficit to three points at 16-13. From there, the Cannoneers went on a 7-0 run and allowed only three more Green and White points in the period, as Pratt carried a 25-16 advantage into halftime.

Pratt continued to stifle the Sarah Lawrence offense in the second half, and midway through the period, the Cannoneers were in front, 38-18.

Collector built momentum for the Gryphons with a 10-point scoring effort in less than five minutes of play. He caught fire with a steal and three unanswered baskets and converted a trio of free throws on a three-shot foul. Though Sarah Lawrence cut the gap to 42-31 on a Smith three-pointer, Pratt was able to tack on a few late points to solidify the win.

Collector led the Gryphons with 13 points and pulled in seven rebounds, while Oppong finished the game with nine points and a team-best nine rebounds. Smith totaled seven points and eight rebounds on the evening.

For Pratt, Ari Grant (Denver, Colo., Denver Jewish Day) led all players with 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Nicholas Lensander (Santa Barbara, Calif., Bishop Garcia Diego) and James Peterson (New Rochelle, N.Y., New Rochelle) also scored in double-digits with 10 points apiece.

Sarah Lawrence next heads to face Culinary Institute of America in a non-conference showdown on Sunday at 1 p.m.
