Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y.—In a showdown against former HVIAC rivals, Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball took on Pratt Institute in a non-conference match at the Pratt Activities Resource Center on Friday. Though the Gryphons took a second-set lead, Pratt came away with the 3-0 sweep.
In the first set, Sarah Lawrence (2-15) was held to one kill, while Pratt (14-3) picked up a 25-7 set.
The second set saw Sarah Lawrence jump out to a 6-1 advantage, helped in part by a pair of service aces from sophomore
Clarisse Taboy (Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia/George School). After three Cannoneer errors extended the lead at 10-4, Pratt rallied back to tie the score at 12-12 en route to a 25-16 win in the set.
SLC remained in contention in the third set, as the teams deadlocked at 5-5 early in the action. Pratt pulled away with a 9-1 run and closed out the match, 25-11.
Four different Gryphons posted a pair of kills, including
Monet Thibou (Brooklyn, N.Y./Elisabeth Irwin),
Alexis Chapman (Bend, Ore./Bend), Lenie Seigel and
Yolanda Lyne Cando (Arlington, Va./H-B Woodlawn). Setter
Xina Graham-Vannais (Newtown, Pa./George School) had four assists, while libero
Lin Zhu (Chengdu, China/Chengdu No. 7) totaled six digs.
Also, SLC rookie
Hannah Lipschutz (Philadelphia, Pa./Woodlynde) notched her first career block in the match.
Sarah Lawrence returns home to host Farmingdale State College and Mount Saint Mary College for a Skyline Conference tri-match starting at noon at Campbell Sports Center.
