Box Score 2 FARMINGDALE, N.Y.—In an 0-2 weekend for the Gryphons, Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball fell to St. Joseph's College Brooklyn at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Friday before being defeated by Maritime College at George E. Nold Hall on Saturday.
Sarah Lawrence (2-19, 0-6 Skyline) fared better in Friday's non-conference match against St. Joseph's (8-11). After trailing 20-13 in the first set, the Gryphons rallied to close the gap at 22-20 before SJC won, 25-21. The Lady Bears took full control in a 25-13 second set.
In the third set, SLC led early 5-3. A 4-0 SJC run gave way to a 17-9 advantage for the visitors. Though the Gryphons fought back to cut the deficit at 23-20, the visitors closed out the straight-set win, 25-21.
All six SLC starters notched at least one kill in the match. Rookie
Lenie Siegel (Huntington Woods, Mich./Berkley) led the way with five kills, while senior
Xina Graham-Vannais (Newtown, Pa./George School) and sophomore
Clarisse Taboy (Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia/George School) totaled four kills apiece.
Graham-Vannais posted a double-double, setting up 13 kills while adding 11 digs on defense. Fellow senior
Alexis Chapman (Bend, Ore./Bend) had nine digs, followed by Siegel with eight and Taboy with seven. Libero
Lin Zhu (Chengdu, China/Chengdu No. 7) also added seven digs.
Sophomore
Yolanda Lyne Cando (Arlington, Va./H-B Woodlawn) had three kills, two assists and four digs against St. Joseph's.
In Saturday's match, Maritime (9-12, 2-4 Skyline) came away with the 3-0 win in the conference match. Siegel again led the Gryphon offense, contributing four kills with seven digs. Graham-Vannais had nine assists and led the defense with eight digs.
Chapman finished the weekend with four kills and two service aces. Sophomore
Monet Thibou (Brooklyn, N.Y./Elisabeth Irwin) had one kill in each match. Rookie
Iris Lin (Guilin, China/Foreign Language/Guangxi Normal Univ.) notched her first kill against Maritime.
Taboy finished the weekend with six kills, two aces and 10 digs. Sophomore
Hannah Lipschutz (Philadelphia, Pa./Woodlynde) also added a kill.
Sarah Lawrence plays the season's final non-conference match on Thursday with a roadtrip to NJCU. The Gryphons host their home finale with a tri-match on Saturday, Nov. 1.
