GLEN ISLAND, N.Y.—In the team's final race of the fall semester, Sarah Lawrence College women's crew fielded two boats at the 2014 Fall Metropolitan Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships at Glen Island Park on Saturday, Oct. 26.
Race conditions were challenging on Sarah Lawrence's home course. Though temperatures were cool in the upper 50's, the teams had to navigate 2000 meter course admist a strong crosswind and gusts over 20 mph. Coupled with low tide waters, many boats struggled to steer clear of rocky shores that line the course, but all succeeded in finishing their races.
In their first race, the Gryphons fielded a boat in Final 1 of the Novice 4+. Racing against Fordham, Iona, Fairfield and Stony Brook, SLC was bettered by its NCAA Division I opponents, taking fifth in the race.
Later, the Green and White fielded a boat in the Varsity 4+ Final 2. The Gryphons were bettered by tough boats from Fordham and Fairfield and reached the finish in fourth place.
The Gryphons will return to action in February for the second half of the season.
