Box Score BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball was defeated by Rutgers-Newark, 3-0, in a non-conference match at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Friday.
Sarah Lawrence (2-10) fared best in the second set when the Gryphons took an early 2-0 lead. The Green and White totaled 10 kills but couldn't get past the visitors' strong defense of 33 digs and six blocks.
Rutgers-Newark (11-5) brought a squadron of 16 Scarlet Raiders to the match. Sharee Gordon highlighted the day with nine kills and five blocks.
For SLC, rookie
Lenie Siegel (Huntington Woods, Mich./Berkley) led the Gryphons with five kills, while sophomore
Clarisse Taboy (Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia/George School) added two spikes. Senior
Xina Graham-Vannais (Newtown, Pa./George School) took on setting duties and notched eight assists.
On defense, Taboy, Siegel and senior
Alexis Chapman (Bend, Ore./Bend) each had five digs in the match.
Sarah Lawrence returns to Skyline Conference play on Saturday with a trip to College of Mount Saint Vincent.
