Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J.—In the team's final non-conference game of the season, Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball was defeated by NJCU, 3-0, at JJ Moore Athletics & Fitness Center on Thursday.
Sarah Lawrence (2-20) was unable to keep up in the first set, falling 25-17. NJCU (6-23) tried to pull away again in the second set, but the Gryphons kept the gap to a minimum and took a two-point lead at 18-16. The teams tied again at 20-20, but the Gothic Knights came out on top, 25-22.
The Gryphons took another lead in the third set, 7-4, but a 9-1 NJCU rally advanced the scoreboard to 13-8, and the Green and White were dismissed, 25-11.
For SLC, rookie
Lenie Siegel (Huntington Woods, Mich./Berkley) led the offense with three kills and the defense with five digs. Sophomore
Yolanda Lyne Cando (Arlington, Va./H-B Woodlawn) notched a pair of kills and a service ace, while seniors
Xina Graham-Vannais (Newtown, Pa./George School) and
Alexis Chapman (Bend, Ore./Bend) each had two kills apiece. Graham-Vannais added four assists, while Siegel contributed three.
Sophomore
Clarisse Taboy (Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia/George School) tallied a kill and four digs, while libero
Lin Zhu (Chengdu, China/Chengdu No. 7) had three aces and a dig.
Sarah Lawrence returns home to host a Skyline Conference tri-match on Saturday. Action against Purchase College and St. Joseph's College-LI begins at noon.
