Race Results
BRONX, N.Y.—History was made on Thursday when the Sarah Lawrence College men's cross country squared off in its first-ever varsity dual race. The Gryphons took on Maritime College (N.Y.) at Van Courtlandt Park and were narrowly defeated, 24-33.
Rookie
Daniel Higinbotham (Alpharetta, Ga./Homeschooled) completed the 5K course as the team's first-ever race winner. He narrowly edged out his opponent to cross the line in 18:26, setting an SLC record on the course.
Sophomore
Pat Newsom (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) crossed the line in fifth-place overall, narrowly missing the 20-minute barrier with a finish of 20:01.
Rookie
Jules Christeson (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco Waldorf) stepped up to be the No. 3 Gryphon for the second time this season. He posted a time of 22:10, his fastest collegiate 5K.
Sophomore
Justin Heftel (Spokane, Wash./Saint George's School) was the next runner to cross the finish line, just eight seconds behind Christeson in 22:18.
Senior
Sabiel Chapnick (New York, N.Y./Excel) rounded out the Green and White squad, stepping up his pace with a time of 25:21.
Sarah Lawrence returns to action on Sunday at the Second Annual City College of New York Cross Country Collegiate Classic on the 8K course at Van Courtlandt.
