Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y.—In the team's final match of 2014, Sarah Lawrence College was nipped by Yeshiva University, 3-2, in a five-set Skyline match at Purchase College on Sunday.
Sarah Lawrence (3-22, 1-8 Skyline) was victorious in the first set, picking up a 25-21 win. Yeshiva (2-16, 2-6 Skyline) responded by leveling the match with a 25-19 second set.
SLC again took the lead by winning the third set, 25-22, before YU pulled even again, 25-21, in the fourth set. In the decisive fifth set, Yeshiva came out on top by the smallest of margins, 15-13.
In the final match of her career, senior
Alexis Chapman (Bend, Ore./Bend) tied her career best with seven kills. She also added eight digs and a career-best six service aces for a team-best 13 points.
Fellow senior
Xina Graham-Vannais (Newtown, Pa./George School) recorded a career-best 30 assists in only her 16th match as the team's setter. She also added four kills, nine digs and a career-high eight service aces.
Rookie
Lenie Siegel (Huntington Woods, Mich./Berkley) led the Gryphons on offense and defense with 11 kills and 11 digs for her first career double-double. Sophomore
Clarisse Taboy (Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia/George School) scored 10 points in a six-kill, four-ace match, adding nine digs on defense.
Sophomore
Yolanda Lyne Cando (Arlington, Va./H-B Woodlawn) recorded career-highs with six kills and eight digs in the match. Classmate
Monet Thibou (Brooklyn, N.Y./Elisabeth Irwin) added two kills on offense.
Rookie
Iris Lin (Guilin, China/Foreign Language/Guangxi Normal Univ.) rounded out the season with a season-best five digs.
The match was SLC's first five-set loss since a defeat by St. Joseph (Conn.) on Oct. 20, 2012.
Sarah Lawrence's debut season in the league comes to an end a day after the squad picked up its first Skyline win, a 3-0 sweep of Purchase. The Gryphons return to the court in the spring for five weeks of training before taking the court in their next match, tentatively scheduled for Sept. 4, 2015.
