Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School) led the Gryphons with three wins and a school record, as Sarah Lawrence College women's swimming defeated St. Joseph's College Long Island, 123-78, and Maritime College, 116-88, in a Skyline double-dual at Campbell Sports Center on Friday.
Sarah Lawrence (3-2, 3-1 Skyline) won seven of the 11 events, while St. Joseph's (4-2, 3-1 Skyline) won three events, and Maritime (3-4, 1-3 Skyline) won one event.
Lawson and her teammates picked up their first win in the day's opening event, the 200 yard medley relay. Along with sophomores
Gabby Risica (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett),
Colette Harley (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) and
Jacqueline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn), the foursome won the race with a time of 2:03.62.
Senior
Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) captured a win in the next event, touching the wall first in the 1000 yard freestyle with a mark of 12:26.53.
Quirk made it three Gryphon wins in a row. She edged out the competition in the 200 freestyle, stopping the clock in 2:14.58.
In the 50 free, Risica picked up a third-place swim, and in the 200 individual medley, junior
Sam Amberchan (Alameda, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) notched a runner-up finish.
The Gryphons climbed back on top with wins in the next two events. Harley captured her first individual win of the day in the 100 butterfly (1:05.05). The 100 freestyle saw Lawson tally her first solo win in 59.56 seconds, followed by Risica in second place just over a second later.
In the 100 backstroke, Amberchan,
Elizabeth Kroll (Sacramento, Calif./The Met Sacramento) and
Sarah Schnapp (Taiwan/Tzu Chi) finished back-to-back-to-back.
Harley and Bates took the top two spots in the 500 freestyle. Harley's winning time of 6:04.42 is the team's best swim in the event this season, while Bates posted her own season best time of 6:09.05, 15 seconds ahead of the third-place competition.
Lawson won the final individual race, breaking her own 100 breaststroke record in a time of 1:13.83. Quirk followed in second place with a swim of 1:21.14. Schnapp, Bates, Kroll and Amberchan rounded out the Green and White scoring with a third-place effort in the 200 freestyle relay.
In the neutral-site scoring, St. Joseph's downed Maritime, 108-93.
Sarah Lawrence returns to action when the Gryphons travel to the Drew University Ranger Invitational, Dec. 5-7.
