Meet Results
BRONXVILLE, N.Y.-Sarah Lawrence College women's swimming concluded the calendar year by earning a pair of wins at the Campbell Sports Center on Saturday. The Gryphons took down Skyline opponent Purchase College, 123-78, and cruised to a win over non-conference rival Bard College, 161-19.
During the meet, three graduating Gryphons were honored as part of SLC's senior day ceremony.
Sonia Abraham (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte),
Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) and
Brenna Rice (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam Central) were recognized for their dedication and accomplishments with SLC swimming.
Sarah Lawrence (5-2, 4-1 Skyline) won nine of 11 events to dominate the three-team field. Purchase (7-4, 5-2 Skyline) recovered some ground by winning two events, while Bard (2-5) was held without a win.
SLC led from start to finish, getting an early start with a triumph in the 200 yard medley relay. Sophomore
Gabby Risica (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett), rookie
Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School) and sophomores
Colette Harley (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) and
Jacqueline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) won the race in 2:06.20, winning by 8.5 seconds.
Bates picked up a win in the 1000 freestyle, touching the wall with one minute to spare in 12:32.72. Abraham made her season debut in the event, earning fourth place.
In the 200 freestyle, Quirk took second place with a season-best of 2:14.47. Rookie
Elizabeth Kroll (Sacramento, Calif./The Met Sacramento) also posted a season best, finishing in fourth place.
Risica picked up her first individual win in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.21 seconds. Rookie
Sarah Schnapp (Taiwan/Tzu Chi) followed in third place (29.97), while classmate
Lydia Mullan (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) placed sixth.
The Gryphons piled on to their lead by taking three of the top four spots in the 200 individual medley. Lawson tallied her first of two solo wins, touching the wall in 2:31.68. Junior
Sam Amberchan (Alameda, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) picked up third place, while rookie
Rachel Barkowitz (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) earned fourth place in the race.
Harley led the way in the 100 butterfly with a winning time of 1:09.55. Schnapp was edged in a close sprint, slipping to fourth place by 0.17 second, while Mullan rounded out the Green and White in fifth place.
Risica added a win in her final race, winning the 100 freestyle (1:03.89) by a margin of 3.4 seconds. Abraham and rookie
Zoe Berg (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) earned points for fifth and sixth place, each swimming season bests.
The Gryphons posted a one-two finish in the 100 backstroke, led by Amberchan's winning swim of 1:11.86. Kroll earned second place in 1:15.54, while Berg made her career debut in the race, earning sixth place.
Harley won her final race of the day, securing a 10-second victory in the 500 freestyle with a swim of 5:58.11. Bates followed in third place, while sophomore
Sky Mihaylo (Albany, Ore./West Albany) placed fifth.
SLC clinched its team victories with three performances in the 100 breaststroke. Lawson won her final race in 1:15.49, followed by Quirk in third place and Barkowitz in fifth.
The Gryphons finished out the day with a runner-up finish in the 200 freestyle relay. Schnapp, Kroll, Amberchan and Bates teamed to finish in 1:59.98, less than a second behind their Panther opponents. Mihaylo, Mullan, Abraham and Barkowitz collected the final points in fourth place.
Sarah Lawrence returns to action with its home finale against College of Staten Island on Saturday, Jan. 17.
