Men's Basketball Ends Season with Win

Box Score
BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—The Gryphons concluded the 2013-14 season in record fashion, as Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball dismissed Cooper Union, 86-62, in a non-conference game at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Friday. With the win, SLC ended its winningest season by setting a new team scoring record.

Sarah Lawrence (10-14) and Cooper Union split the first dozen points of the game. SLC broke open the lead with a 15-2 run, kicked off by four points from rookie Wyatt Rocheleau (San Jose, Calif./Christopher).

With the Gryphons on top, 21-10, captain Josh Niebloom (Livingston, N.J./Golda Och Academy) converted a jumper to trigger an 8-1 run to give the hosts a 29-11 advantage with seven minutes to play in the first half.

At the two-minute mark, SLC rookie Niko Yuvienco (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) scored back-to-back fast-break layups and converted an old-fashioned three-point play on the latter, giving the Green and White a 44-19 edge.

By halftime, the Gryphons still had Cooper Union doubled-up, 46-23. SLC shot 46% (17-of-37) from the floor while converting nine free throws in the half. Yuvienco led all players with 13 points in the period, while Sarah Lawrence's leading scorer Stevan Radosavljevic (Lazarevac, Serbia/Grammar School Lazarevac) tallied 11 points in the half.

In the second half, Cooper Union kept the Gryphons from running away any further. The visitors converted 15-of-26 shots (57%) from the floor in the second half and cut the gap to 16 at 52-36 with 15 minutes to play. Still, SLC was not to be caught.

Center Graham Gilleran (San Francisco, Calif./Archbishop Riordan), who was held scoreless in the opening twenty minutes, came alive in the second half, making five field goals to end the game with 11 points.

With 50 seconds remaining and the Gryphons up 84-60, Radosavljevic was sent to the line for a pair. The rookie converted both shots, eclipsing SLC's scoring mark and solidifying the season in the books. A late Cooper jump shot rounded out the scoring with the Green and White on top, 86-62.

Radosavljevic led all players with 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to earn his 14th and final double-double of the season. Yuvienco followed with 16 points, adding four steals. Rookie Mat Gerak (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) quietly racked up 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting while dishing out a season-best six assists and snagging five steals.

Gilleran finished the day with 11 points and notched two blocks. He finishes his rookie season with 52 blocks, the second most recorded in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Niebloom scored nine and Rocheleau added six points. Niels Kjer (Manila, Philippines/Brent International School Manila) also added a half dozen points and collected five rebounds.

For Cooper Union, Adam Khalid O'Connor led the team with 18 points and nine rebounds. Matthew Smarsch reached double-figures with 10 points and also handed out six assists. Andrew Keane and Anthony Sean Adal added eight points apiece.

With 86 points, SLC set a new program record for most points in a game, edging the team's previous best from an 84-76 win over nationally-ranked Berkeley College (N.Y.) earlier this season. SLC matched its team record with 33 made field goals in the game.

The 2013-14 Sarah Lawrence squad has re-written the SLC history book by breaking nearly every season record. The team posted the program's most wins (10) and best winning percentage, handily beating out the previous best from 2007-08 (6-10).
