Men's Basketball Nipped by Albany Pharmacy

Box Score
ALBANY, N.Y.—After leading for much of the first half, the Gryphons were unable to hold on, as Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball was defeated by Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, 56-53, in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Albert M. White Gymnasium on Saturday.

With the loss, Sarah Lawrence (9-13, 4-2 HVIAC) finds itself needing one more conference win to clinch a postseason berth, as Albany Pharmacy (8-10, 4-3 HVIAC) took control of the tiebreaker with Saturday's win. The Gryphons will play their conference finale against Vaughn College on Tuesday.

The first half of action saw the two teams play back-and-forth basketball for the full 20 minutes. The period saw six tie scores, and the Gryphons took the lead on seven different occasions. By halftime, SLC led 32-30.

At the half, rookie Gryphon Stevan Radosavljevic (Lazarevac, Serbia/Grammar School Lazarevac) led the team with eight points on 4-for-4 shooting while collecting a team-high seven rebounds. Classmate Mat Gerak (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) followed with seven points.

In the second period, the teams again dueled to a handful of tie scores, and with just over 10 minutes remaining, the score was knotted at 45-45. The host Panthers were able to pull away by holding SLC scoreless for over five minutes while scoring seven unanswered points.

Trailing by as many as eight points at 55-47, Sarah Lawrence struggled to score. Albany Pharmacy gathered seven offensive rebounds in the final five minutes to wean time off the clock until time expired on the three-point Panther win.

Despite shooting 54 percent (15-of-28) in the opening half, SLC was cold in the second half, sinking just 10 field goals on 27 attempts (37%). The Green and White entered the game averaging more than 12 points per game from the foul line, but ACPHS sent SLC to the line a season-low four times, and the Gryphons converted just one attempt.

Center Graham Gilleran (San Francisco, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) led the team with 16 points, scoring 10 in the second half. He also collected seven rebounds and added three blocks, bringing his season total to 50. Radosavljevic got his 13th double-double of the season by way of 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Gerak finished the day with nine points and three assists, while Wyatt Rocheleau (San Jose, Calif./Christopher) contributed seven points, and Niko Yuvienco (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) scored six.

For Albany Pharmacy, Casey Redfern scored a game-high 23 points, followed by Desmond Henderson (13) and John Tremblay (10) also in double-figures. Only five Panthers scored in the game, including only four points off the bench.

Sarah Lawrence travels to Vaughn in a must-win game on Tuesday. A loss at Vaughn would give ACPHS the fourth and final berth in the HVIAC Tournament. SLC seeks its first-ever postseason berth in its final season before joining the Skyline Conference in 2014-15.
