NEW YORK—Gryphons
Sofia Reh (Villanova, Pa./Radnor) and
Katherine Shepard (Visalia, Calif./Mount Whitney) made Sarah Lawrence College athletics history by earning the Gryphons' first weekly awards from the Skyline Conference. Reh was named Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week, while Shepard earned Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week accolades, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Reh won three matches at the No. 2 singles flight and three victories at No. 2 doubles as SLC won three of its four contests on the week. She earned a 6-2, 6-1 decision on Friday, helping SLC to its first-ever Skyline Conference victory, 6-3, over Mount Saint Mary College. Reh added a singles and doubles win over St. Joseph's College Brooklyn on Saturday and two more wins in the Gryphons' 9-0 sweep of Bard College on Sunday.
Shepard was SLC's No. 2 runner at the College of Staten Island Invitational on Sunday. She stopped the clock at 22:36.1, earning a 22nd-place finish in the field of over 160 runners. Shepard's effort lifted the Gryphons to a fifth-place finish among 19 teams and was the best finish among Skyline Conference rookies in the race. She has been among the SLC's top three in each of the squad's four races this season.
In addition, women's tennis player
Sarah Pyatt (Taos, N.M./Taos) was named to the Skyline Conference Honor Roll. Pyatt went 3-1 in both singles and doubles action, including six wins in a three-day period. After winning a pair of matches in SLC's first Skyline win versus Mount Saint Mary, the sophomore added wins against St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Saturday and against Bard on Sunday.
