Box Score 3 Box Score - Maritime vs. Bard
BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—In the team's first outing of 2014, Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball fell to Bard College and Maritime College in a non-conference tri-match at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Saturday.
In the Gryphons' opener, Bard (1-5) stole a 3-0 win with Lexi Akingbade racking up a match-high seven kills. Senior
Xina Graham-Vannais (Newtown, Pa./George School) led SLC with four kills and five digs. Rookie
Lenie Siegel (Huntington Woods, Mich./Berkley) also added a pair of kills and three digs.
Against Maritime (3-2), Sarah Lawrence had trouble against an aggressive Privateer front, which posted 32 kills in the match. A half-dozen Gryphons each posted multiple kills, but Maritime came away with the 3-0 win.
SLC setters
Clarisse Taboy (Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia/George School) and
Yolanda Lyne Cando (Arlington, Va./H-B Woodlawn) each had seven assists on the day. Taboy also contributed four service aces. On defense, Cando and
Lin Zhu (Chengdu, China/Chengdu No. 7) each racked up seven digs.
In the neutral-site match, Bard rallied from a two-set deficit and used a 33-31 fourth set to tie the match at 2-2. Maritime eventually recovered to win the decisive set, 15-10, and the match, 3-2.
Sarah Lawrence returns to the court on Thursday, when the Gryphons host Medgar Evers College at 7 p.m.
