Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y.—Sophomore Gryphon
Brendan O'Connell (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover) scored a game-tying field goal midway through the first half, but Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball was unable to hold on, falling to Purchase College in a Skyline game at PC Gymnasium on Saturday. The defending conference-champion Panthers were victorious, 83-47.
Sarah Lawrence (1-10, 0-5 Skyline) opened the game with a 7-0 run. O'Connell drained each of the first two shot attempts in the game, and sophomore
Wyatt Rocheleau (San Jose, Calif./Christopher) drained a three-pointer to extend the run.
Purchase (2-10, 2-3 Skyline) rallied to score the next nine points before O'Connell made another jumper to tie the game at 9-9. PC retook the lead, but a free throw by
Mat Gerak (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) and another trey by Rocheleau knotted the game again at 13-13.
O'Connell tied the game at 15-15 with 10 minutes to play in the half. From there, the Green and White were stymied by the Panthers, who advanced to the Second Round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship.
After the Gryphons trailed 33-15 at the break, rookie
Glenn Forstner (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South) sank a three-pointer to break 12 minutes of scoring silence. Forstner matched his season high of six points by scoring three more on the Gryphons' next field goal.
Co-captain
Graham Gilleran (San Francisco, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) posted all seven of his points inside 12 minutes to play. The Gryphons' leading rebounder had a team-high six boards in the game.
Rookie
Logan Dubek (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) converted a jumper after Gilleran, as SLC notched back-to-back field goals.
O'Connell scored a three-pointer, while transfer sophomores
Ege Ozcan (Istanbul, Turkey/Andrews Osborne Acad. (Ohio)) and
Jeff Jordan II (Smithfield, Va., Smithfield) made baskets in the last four minutes, rounding out the SLC field goals.
O'Connell's 11 points led the way for the Gryphons, followed by seven each by Rocheleau and Gilleran. Dubek and Forstner notched half a dozen apiece. Jordan matched Gilleran's six rebounds.
Four Panthers reached double-figure scoring, led by Creig Graves with 22 points. Kendall Felix recorded a double-double on 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
