Jeff Jordan II (Smithfield, Va., Smithfield) led the Gryphons with 11 points, as Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball fell to Farmingdale State College, 72-51, in a Skyline game at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Wednesday.
Jordan scored four points in the first four minutes, while sophomores
Wyatt Rocheleau (San Jose, Calif./Christopher) and
Brendan O'Connell (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover) each scored three in the same period. The SLC defense kept the visiting Rams under control early, as Sarah Lawrence (1-12, 0-7 Skyline) opened up a 10-5 lead.
Farmingdale State (3-10, 1-5 Skyline) charged back with a 20-2 run to take the lead for good.
Jordan scored the Gryphons' next five points, while co-captain
Graham Gilleran (San Francisco, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) scored four and O'Connell converted a jumper to help the Green and White close the gap to six at 27-21.
The Rams led 32-21 at the break and held a double-digit lead throughout the second period. Nine different Gryphons scored in the half, led by rookie
Andre Garibaldi (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) with six. Classmate
Logan Dubek (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) also scored half a dozen, knocking down a pair of three-pointers.
Jordan's team-high 11 points were accompanied by three rebounds from the transfer sophomore. O'Connell finished with eight points, followed by Gilleran with seven. Sophomore guard
Wyatt Rocheleau (San Jose, Calif./Christopher) dished out three assists in the game.
For Farmingdale State, Marques Underwood led all players with 13 points, and Ronald Winkler tallied 12 points. Weldon Irvine led the game with 10 rebounds.
Sarah Lawrence returns to its home court on Saturday, facing off against Maritime College at 1 p.m.
