NEW YORK-Sarah Lawrence College women's cross country runners
Mary Kauffman and Natalie Grieco have been named to the 2015 Skyline Women's Cross Country All-Conference teams, as announced by the league on Sunday. Kauffman was named to the First Team, while Grieco earned back-to-back Second Team honors.
Kauffman's all-conference selection was earned with a sixth-place finish at the 2015 Skyline Women's Cross Country Championship. The senior led SLC across the 5K finish line in 21:33. She helped the Gryphons to a runner-up finish in the final standings, two spots better than SLC's debut performance last season.
Kauffman has led the Gryphons in all seven races this season, posting six top-20 finishes and four top-10 runs. Her season best is 20:13, set at the SUNY Cobleskill Warde Invitational on Sept. 12. Kauffman's All-Conference selection is the third of her career; she was named to the All-HVWAC team in 2012 and All-HVIAC team in '13. Kauffman was named Skyline Runner of the Week twice this season and was joined on the first team by six members of the St. Joseph's (L.I.) champion squad. She is the first SLC woman to earn Skyline first-team all-conference honors.
Grieco finished Sunday's championship in 22:02, good for 10th place and her second-straight selection to the All-Skyline Second Team. She joins Kauffman as a three-time all-conference honoree, having been named to the All-HVIAC team in her rookie season. Sarah Lawrence was one of five schools represented on the second team.
Grieco missed the first half of the 2015 season due to a lingering injury but returned to form as the team's No. 2 runner in each of the last two races. Her time on Sunday is a season best and a personal best on the championship course. She became the first Gryphon to become a two-time Skyline all-conference student-athlete.
Sarah Lawrence cross country will have a tune-up race on Sunday, Nov. 8, at the NJIT Russo Classic. The Gryphons round out the season at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Championship on November 14.
