PURCHASE, N.Y.—Despite taking an early lead, women's swimming was defeated by Skyline rival Purchase College, 109-90, in the Gryphons' final league dual meet of the season at PC Pool on Saturday.

MEET RECAPSarah Lawrence began the afternoon with wins in each of the first three events. In the 200 yard medley relay, rookie
Devon Peal (Springfield, Va./West Springfield), sophomore
Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School), senior
Sam Amberchan (Alameda, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) and junior
Jacqueline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) posted a winning time of 2:06.04. Peal returned in the next event and won the 1000 yard freestyle in 11:53.80. Lawson won the 200 freestyle in 2:06.31, giving the Gryphons a 31-21 advantage in the team scoring.
Purchase nearly erased the lead by winning the 50 freestyle; sophomore
Elizabeth Kroll (Sacramento, Calif./The Met Sacramento) placed second in the race in 29.11 seconds. Sarah Lawrence regained ground, as Quirk (2:32.31) and Amberchan (2:39.42) took the top two spots in the 200 yard individual medley. At the first break, SLC led by eight, 49-41.
Amberchan swam a career-best 1:08.17 in the 100 butterfly but was only able to capture second place in the event. Lawson picked up second place in the 100 freestyle (57.85), but the Panthers captured the overall lead 67-61 with four events remaining.
Kroll matched her career best in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:11.61, earning second place. Peal was runner-up in the 500 freestyle (5:48.09), and the Panthers pulled away, 92-73.
Quirk swam to victory in the penultimate event, winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.97, just .05 second off her career best. Kroll, sophomore

Rachel Barkowitz (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) and junior
Lydia Mullan (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) finished the day with a runner-up performance in the 200 freestyle relay (2:05.07).
NOTABLE PERFORMANCESBarkowitz posted a season best to earn fourth place in the 200 freestyle (2:33.57). Schnapp picked up fourth place in the 100 butterfly with a career-best of 1:17.20; she also earned fourth in the 500 freestyle with a career-best 6:24.96. Mullan earned fourth place in the 100 backstroke with a season-best 1:20.47. Rookie
Kiki Michaan (New York, N.Y./Saint Ann's School) earned a point for fifth place in the 100 breaststroke, swimming a career-best 2:02.54.
