MIRA Spring Regatta ResultsGLEN ISLAND, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College women's crew began its 2015 spring season by rowing in two races last weekend. The Gryphons participated in the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Rowing Association Spring Championships on Saturday before taking on Iona College and Fairfield College in a three-way duel on Sunday.
In Saturday's MIRA Championships, the Gryphons placed fourth in their heat of the Women's Novice 4+. With three of five rowers making their intercollegiate debut, the Green and White boat had a strong start and handled the 2,000 meter course as a team.
"I am very proud of the team," remarked Head Coach
Brittany Aiello. "They went up against other teams with much more experience. Our women held their own and came off the water with a positive attitude."
On Sunday, Sarah Lawrence faced a formidable challenge against NCAA Division I opponents Iona and Fairfield. Despite rowing a better race than the previous day, the Gryphons finished third.
About Sunday, Aiello commented, "our rowers are happier about how they maintained their race plan and moved when they were supposed to move. Again, I am very proud of the team and its performance."
Sarah Lawrence will face Iona on the teams' home course again on Tuesday, and the Gryphons conclude the spring segment with a trip to face Union College on Sunday, April 26.
