Women's Volleyball Faces Skyline Foes

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 THROGGS NECK, N.Y.—Rookie Francesca Kohani (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon) led the Gryphons with 20 kills, but Sarah Lawrence College was ousted by host Maritime College and College of Mount Saint Vincent by identical 3-0 margins in a pair of Skyline matches at Riesenberg Gymnasium on Saturday.

Mount Saint Vincent (8-10, 4-0 Skyline) def. Sarah Lawrence (11-6, 3-3 Skyline), 3-0.

AGAINST MARITIME
Sarah Lawrence began the day strong, earning an 11-5 advantage to start the day's first match. Maritime chipped away at the deficit and tied the set at 13-13. After back-to-back kills by Kohani, the Privateers came alive, scoring 11 of the last 12 points to take the opening set, 25-18. Sarah Lawrence was held to just five kills in the second set, and the Gryphons were unable to overcome 14 Maritime kills in the third set. Kohani led the squad in kills (nine), aces (four) and digs (14) in the match. Sophomore setter CJ Kelley (Las Vegas, Nev./Basic) was limited to 15 assists.

AGAINST MOUNT SAINT VINCENT
CMSV led start to finish in the opening set, yet the second frame played much closer. The two teams dueled back-and-forth through 16 tie scores and seven lead changes. Kohani had five kills in the set, while senior Monet Thibou (Brooklyn, N.Y./Elisabeth Irwin) landed another three. With the score tied 21-21, the Dolphins finally emerged with a 25-21 win. Sarah Lawrence led by as many as three points in the third set before a 7-0 CMSV rally gave the Dolphins momentum and the eventual sweep. Kohani anchored the offense with 11 kills, backed by Kelley's 19 assists, three blocks and two service aces. Rookie Lauren Kilroy (King of Prussia, Pa./Country Day Sch. of the Sacred Heart) led the defense with 18 digs in the match.

TOP GRYPHONS
On the day, Kohani led the team with 20 kills, followed by a combined 11 kills by Thibou. Kelley had 34 assists and totaled four blocks in the two bouts. Kilroy finished the day with 32 digs, Kohani combined for 22, rookie Kayla Zaffrullah (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Treasure Coast) reached 17 digs, and Kelley hit double figures with 15 digs.
