Box Score Archived Video

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.
—In the Gryphons' final home game of the season, Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball was defeated by College of Mount Saint Vincent, 74-67, in a Skyline game at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Wednesday.

IN SHORT
Mount Saint Vincent (9-15, 8-11 Skyline) def. Sarah Lawrence (5-19, 2-17 Skyline), 74-67.

END OF AN ERA
Before the game, Gryphon Brendan O'Connell (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy) was recognized for his contributions to the SLC program. One of Head Coach Chris Ehmer's first recruits, O'Connell's three year career comes to an end as he enrolls at nearby Columbia University to complete simultaneous bachelor's and master's degrees. Entering Wednesday's game, O'Connell ranked seventh on SLC's all-time scoring list as well as third in steals, fourth in assists, fifth in three-point field goals, seventh in rebounds and eighth in free-throw percentage.

GAME FLOW
The first 12 minutes of the game saw three tie scores and six lead changes. Captain Graham Gilleran (San Francisco, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) scored the Gryphons' first points, and junior Mat Gerak (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) followed to give SLC a taste of the lead, 5-3. Rookie Parker Hagmaier (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) scored a layup at the seven-minute mark, and Gilleran followed with a trey for a 16-14 edge. Following a Gerak layup, SLC held its final lead at 23-22 before the Dolphins went in front for good.

With two minutes to play in the first half, Gilleran converted a three-point attempt to score his 13th point of the game to become the first Gryphon to eclipse the 750 career-points threshold. At halftime, SLC was trailing but within reach, 37-34.

Five minutes into the second half, CMSV's advantage reached double figures, 50-40. The visitors obtained their largest lead with eight minutes to go, 60-48. With five minutes left, SLC halved a 10-point deficit from 65-55 to 65-60. SLC pulled within four points at 71-67 with less than a minute to play, but CMSV held strong with defensive stops on the Gryphons' final three possessions.

GRYPHON STARTERS DOMINATE
With the exception of a layup by junior Ege Ozcan (Istanbul, Turkey/Andrews Osborne Acad. (Ohio)) with less than five minutes to play, all of the SLC field goals were scored by three of the team's starters. Gilleran led the squad with 22 points and nine rebounds. Gerak surpassed 20 points for the second straight game, scoring 21 points with seven rebounds. Hagmaier totaled 17 points and eight rebounds in the game.

Rookie Gabe Eng (Brooklyn, N.Y./The Beacon School) added four points from the foul line, dishing out five assists. First year guard Austin Jones (Upper Marlboro, Md./Flint Hill School) had three assists. In his final game on his home court, O'Connell contributed a pair of assists and two rebounds.

FOR THE DOLPHINS
Jamir Ferebee led all players with 24 points, while Mamadou Mariko had 11 rebounds. Trevor Johnson and Matthew Sowah reached double-figures with 10 points apiece.
