Four Gryphons Named to Skyline Winter Sportsmanship Teams

NEW YORK—Four Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons were among the 43 student-athletes named to the Skyline All-Sportsmanship Teams for the 2015-16 Winter sports season, as announced by the league on Friday.

The honorees are now semifinalists to receive the 2015-16 Male & Female Sporting Awards, which will be voted on by the conference's directors of athletics at the conclusion of the academic year. Each member school may select one women's and one men's student-athlete as finalists.

In addition to being part of the Skyline Conference mission statement, the NCAA Division III Philosophy Statement encourages "the development of sportsmanship and positive societal attitudes in all constituents, including student-athletes, coaches, administrative personnel and spectators.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Junior Brendan O'Connell (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy) completed his playing career as a standout contributor from the Gryphon bench. He finished his three-year career ranked among SLC's top-10 in eight statistical categories. He is pursuing a 3+2 dual degree and will enroll at Columbia University in the fall.

MEN'S SWIMMING
Junior Nick Ransom (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) collected his second-straight All-Sportsmanship selection. As a team captain, he helped his team improve to third place in the 2016 Skyline Championship, scoring 60+ points over the course of the season and setting 10 personal bests.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING
Sophomore Rachel Barkowitz (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) had a breakout season in 2015-16. She scored 121.5 points for the team, triple her previous season's total. The Skyline Academic Honor Roll selection set personal bests in four events this season, including the 100 yard and 200 yard breaststroke.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Senior Alex Carroll (Boston, Mass./Homeschooled) concluded his three-year playing career as one of the program's top players. A two-time conference academic honoree, he played more career matches than any other Gryphon, climbing into the top-10 in five statistical categories.
