KEY MOMENTS
Sarah Lawrence took an early lead in the game while preventing the Knights from going ahead at any point in the first period. By the midpoint of the opening period, Jones had accrued seven points and outscore the Mount Saint Mary team to give the Gryphons a 15-6 advantage. Later in the period, rookie
Joseph Kleeman (Greenwood Village, Colo./Arapahoe) converted a pair of free throws and Jones drained a three-pointer as the 5-0 run put the Gryphons on top, 24-15. In the final minute, Jones scored back-to-back layups and added a final free throw to score the last five points of the half for a 30-24 halftime lead.
Mount Saint Mary regained momentum in the second half. After sophomore
Gabriel Eng (Brooklyn, N.Y./The Beacon School) made a three-point basket for a 36-29 SLC lead, MSMC went on a 19-2 streak that turned the tables for good. Jones scored his 23rd point of the game just inside seven minutes to play, yet the Gryphons trailed, 51-46. Another 8-0 run sealed the victory for the Mount, and a pair of field goals by Kleeman were the only Gryphons points in a four and a half minute stretch. Jones capped the game with a final successful layup to finish the game with 25 points.
