BJ Sanders (Silver Spring, Md./Georgetown Prep) led the Gryphons' scoring in the opening half, posting his first points on a layup to tie the score 2-2. Senior co-captain
Graham Gilleran (San Francisco, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) drained an early three-pointer, while classmate
Jeff Jordan II (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) scored three free throws in the period. A 9-0 Yeshiva run was detrimental to the Gryphons' chances, and the Maccabees held a 33-19 advantage at halftime. Sanders had a team-high six points at the break.
In the second half, Yeshiva kept up the pressure and led by double-figures throughout. Sophomore Gabe Eng scored a pair of three-pointers, while co-captain
Mat Gerak (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) made three field goals.
TOP GRYPHONS
Eng totaled nine points in the game on a trio of three-point baskets. Sanders had a field goal in the second half to bring his scoring total to eight, while Gerak also contributed eight points. Gilleran contributed seven points, and Jordan scored all of his five points from the foul line.
Under the boards, Sanders led the team with 10 rebounds, followed by Gerak and Gilleran with six. Eng and rookie
Joseph Kleeman (Greenwood Village, Colo./Arapahoe) added five rebounds apiece. Kleeman also had a team-high three assists.
