Women’s Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence women's volleyball team suffered a pair of losses Saturday, falling to Staten Island 3-0 and Lehman 3-1 at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center.

AGAINST STATEN ISLAND
In the opening set, the Gryphons raced out to a 4-2 lead. The Dolphins countered with a 12-5 spurt while scoring the last eight points of the game to take a 1-0 series edge. In the second set, Staten Island continued its offensive attack, taking a 2-0 series lead with a 25-8 game two victory. The Dolphins completed the sweep, rallying from a 23-17 deficit to pick up the series win.

Melanie Coleman (Forest Hills, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) finished with a game-high 12 kills, while Lauren Kilroy (King of Prussia, Pa./Country Day Sch. of the Sacred Heart) posted 15 assists and Helen Song (Shenzhen, China/Shenzhen Foreign Language) recorded eight digs.

AGAINST LEHMAN
The Lightening scored the first three points of the match en route to building a 21-9 lead and winning the first set by a 25-13 margin. The Gryphons tied up the series in the second game, racing out to a 24-14 advantage. Lehman used eight unanswered points to get within two, but a kill from Coleman clinched the set. The Lightening won the last two games of the contest, winning the third set 25-19 and the fourth set 25-15.

Coleman finished with 16 kills, while Kilroy added 15 assists and Eleni Spentzouris (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) posted 14 digs.

UP NEXT
Sarah Lawrence returns to action Thursday (Oct. 26) to host CCNY on Senior Night. Before the game, Spentzouris will be recognized for her hard work and dedication to the women's volleyball program.
