BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Mai Rivers hit the go-ahead three-pointer with 41 seconds left in regulation to defeat Sarah Lawrence 63-62 Saturday afternoon at Campbell Sports Center.

Sarah Lawrence controlled the contest for most of the afternoon, leading for 29:50.

The Gryphons held a 49-44 advantage heading into the final period, but watched their lead evaporate with an 11-2 spurt, powered by a trio of three-point field goals (55-51). Sarah Lawrence cut the deficit to one possession with a basket from Tess Carrier (Los Angeles, Calif./Palos Verdes), but the Warriors answered with five straight points to take their largest lead of the game (60-53).

Sarah Lawrence quickly cut the deficit to one, thanks to six straight points, capped off by a jumper from Taryn Penna (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) (60-59). Following a missed attempt from Vaughn, the Gryphons regained the lead with a layup from Penna with 1:03 remaining. On the Warriors' next possession, Rivers nailed a triple from the top of the key (63-61). Penna went 1-of-2 from the line with 18 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to one. Sarah Lawrence had a final possession to regain the lead, but turned the ball over as time expired to secure a Vaughn victory.

Rivers led all scorers with 34 points, while Nicole White added 15 and Emily Betances chipped in with 10.

Penna finished with 31 points, 11 rebounds and a game-best six steals, while Carrier added a career-best 18 along with 11 rebounds and three swipes.
