It was a game of runs in the opening period, as each team traded spurts throughout the half. Trailing 21-10, the Gryphons used a 14-0 run to take the lead. The run was keyed by eight points from Malin Segal (Wenham, Mass./Concord Academy), including back-to-back baskets from beyond the arc.

After trading free throws, Luke O'Connor (Northport, N.Y./The Stony Brook School) and BJ Sanders (Silver Spring, Md./Georgetown Prep) each made a layup to give Sarah Lawrence a 32-31 edge with 1:11 to play. St. Joseph's Brooklyn closed the half with four unanswered points to take a 35-32 halftime lead.

Segal and Sanders reached double-figures in the first half, while Andre Garibaldi (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury), who made his first start of the season Thursday, was solid with six points in the opening frame.
