NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's basketball team suffered a 71-43 loss at the College of New Rochelle Thursday at Monroe Athletic Complex.

The Blue Angels jumped out to an 8-3 edge in the opening period, but the Gryphons tied the contest at 10 with a 7-2 spurt, fueled by five points from Taryn Penna (Sparta, N.J./Sparta). New Rochelle went back on top with a basket, but a triple from Tess Carrier (Los Angeles, Calif./Palos Verdes) gave Sarah Lawrence the lead (13-12). The Blue Angels connected on back-to-back field goals to regain the advantage (17-13), but a layup from Alexa Zartman-Ball (Washington, D.C./The Madeira School) in the final minute cut the deficit to one possession entering the second quarter (17-15).
New Rochelle went on to outscore the Gryphons 44-13 over the next two periods en route to picking up the victory.
Penna filled the stat sheet on Thursday, pacing the Gryphons in points (26), rebounds (12), assists (3), blocks (2) and steals (3). The junior has three double-doubles this season and has scored 20 or more points three times.
Carrier added eight points, eight rebounds and one steal, while Kaylin Yamada (Los Angeles, Calif./St. Paul) contributed seven points, two rebounds and two steals.
