BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence women's volleyball team opened up its 2017 campaign Friday with a 3-0 loss to New Rochelle at Campbell Sports Center.

KEY MOMENTS
After Sarah Lawrence scored the set's opening point, the Blue Angels outscored the Gryphons 18-5 to take a commanding lead. Sarah Lawrence cut into the New Rochelle advantage with six straight points, but were unable to overcome the deficit. In the second set, the Blue Angels raced out to a 9-4 lead and didn't look back to secure a 25-11 victory. The Gryphons scored the first two points of the third set, but New Rochelle countered with a five-point rally en route to a 25-18 win.
GRYPHON PERFORMANCES
Rookies
Melanie Coleman (Forest Hills, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) and
Francesca LaRocca (Annapolis, Md./South River) were impressive in their collegiate debuts, combining to record 10 of the Gryphons' 13 kills.
Lauren Kilroy (King of Prussia, Pa./Country Day Sch. of the Sacred Heart) paced Sarah Lawrence with nine assists, while LaRocca and
Francesca Kohani (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon) recorded five digs apiece.
