Women’s Volleyball Defeats King’s College, 3-1

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence women's volleyball team won its second straight match Friday, defeating King's College (N.Y.) 3-1 at Noyes Court.

KEY MOMENTS
The Lions raced out to a 6-1 lead in the opening game and held a 10-6 advantage. The Gryphons knotted the game with four unanswered points. King's College used a 5-3 spurt to regain the lead, but Sarah Lawrence countered with four straight points to take a 17-15 lead. The Lions went on a 6-0 run en route to holding a 24-21 advantage. Sarah Lawrence did not lay down, tying the game at 24 and going on to take the first set, 27-25.

King's College tied the series in the second set, rallying from a three-point deficit to win, 25-23. In the third game, the Gryphons found themselves trailing 23-17, but finished the set with eight straight points to take a 2-1 series advantage. In the fourth set, Sarah Lawrence jumped out to a 19-9 lead and did not look back to win the series.

Melanie Coleman (Forest Hills, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) paced the Gryphons with 13 kills and four aces, while Francesca LaRocca (Annapolis, Md./South River) finished with nine kills and Eleni Spentzouris (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) chipped in with five. Lauren Kilroy (King of Prussia, Pa./Country Day Sch. of the Sacred Heart) tallied a game-high 27 assists while Camryn Sanchez (El Cernito, Calif./Albany HS) posted a game-best 24 digs.

UP NEXT
Sarah Lawrence returns to action Saturday to host a tri-match. The Gryphons will take on Old Westbury at 11 a.m. and NJCU at 3 p.m.
