Women’s Volleyball Splits Tri-Match

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence women's volleyball team split its tri-match at Noyes Court Saturday, defeating Old Westbury, 3-2, while falling to NJCU, 3-0.

AGAINST OLD WESTBURY
Tied 8-8 in the opening set, Old Westbury used an 8-3 spurt to capture the lead for good, taking the first set 25-21. In the second game, the Gryphons outscored the Panthers 11-5 after tying the game at 14, evening the series 1-1. In the third game, Old Westbury rallied back from a 24-22 deficit with four unanswered points to take a 2-1 series lead. Sarah Lawrence forced a fifth set, scoring the last six points to win 25-19.

In the decisive game, leading 6-5, Sarah Lawrence pulled away with fourth consecutive points en route to a 15-9 win. It was the Gryphons' second five-set win of the week, previously defeating Maritime Wednesday night.

Melanie Coleman (Forest Hills, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) paced the Gryphons with game-highs in kills (13) and aces (10). Lauren Kilroy (King of Prussia, Pa./Country Day Sch. of the Sacred Heart) recorded 26 assists, while Camryn Sanchez (El Cernito, Calif./Albany HS) contributed with 13 digs.

AGAINST NJCU
Sarah Lawrence jumped out to a 4-2 lead, but the Gothic Knights countered with five straight points to take the lead and not look back, winning the opening game 25-15. In the second set, the Gryphons scored the first six points of the game and led 8-1, but NJCU chipped away at the deficit. Trailing 24-21, the Gothic Knights finished on a 5-0 run to win the game and take a 2-0 series lead. In the third game, NCJU scored the first six points of the set en route to a 25-20 win and three-game sweep.

Coleman paced the Gryphons with eight kills, while Kilroy posted 16 assists and Sanchez recorded 10 digs. Lucy DeCarlo (New York, N.Y./The Calhoun School) finished with a team-best three aces.
